When I travel I really like to find places where I can get up high and get an overview of the area. It helps me get a sense of the place and provides an orientation to the area that maps just can’t provide. It also offers a great vantage point for photography. Recently I wrote of one great way to accomplish this – rent a helicopter (related article). If you have really deep pockets, helicopter photography can’t be beat. But in the world of reality most of us can’t rent a chopper every time we travel. We have to find other ways to get that overall view. As I said, I am always looking for a place to get that view when I travel to different cities. Here are 4 Great Photo Views of Paris that I have found.
Eiffel Tower – Yes, I know – this one is obvious. The Eiffel Tower is the iconic symbol of Paris and is one of the most photographed features of the city. The trip up the tower tends to be a bit pricey at 13.4 Euro (@$18.11 currently). This ticket gives you full access to all three levels via elevator. (Cheaper options are available – like stairs! – Not my idea of a good time.) You can avoid the sometimes lengthy lines by purchasing a ticket and reserving a time online at http://www.eiffel-tower.com/ A visit to the Eiffel Tower is a must do if you are a first timer in Paris. And the Paris Photo Views are, of course, wonderful.
Notre Dame – The climb up the spiraling, cramped and claustrophobic stairs to the very narrow observation area atop Notre Dame will have you huffing and puffing. The worn stone steps in combination with the lack of headroom mean you climb the stairs in a slow, staggering, and crouched position. The entire experience will bring back memories of “The Hunchback of Notre-Dame !” If it sounds like its an effort – well it is. But it’s worth it. Once you arrive at the top of the world famous cathedral you can get those great “up close and personal” images of the Gargoyles which overlook the city. And below you lies the the entire City of Paris, the Seine, and the Eiffel Tower in the distance.
Arch de Triumphe – The observation area atop the Arch de Triumphe provides great views of the City of Paris. Twelve Parisian Boulevards radiate out from the Arch and the views along each gives a new perspective on the City of Light.
Pompidou Museum of Modern Art – The architecture of this museum is striking – it’s collection is outstanding – and on top of all that the museum offers some super views overlooking the City of Paris.
Do you know of other great locations to view Paris? How about locations in other cities? Feel free to share.
Hope you are all enjoying winter…………Enjoy The Adventure!
