A Wi-Fi Travel Router can be a nice little device to throw in your travel electronics kit. I know that when I travel I always like to be able to remain “connected.” There’s just something nice and reassuring about being able to stay in touch while on the road. And if you are conducting business – writing, photographing, and posting while on the road – well a good internet connection can become a necessity.
There are, of course, a number of ways to get connected. Mobile phone and hot spot connections work. But as we all know, hot spot fees, data fees, roaming charges and international data rates can sometimes be a bit daunting. So whenever possible I scout out a nice free Wi-Fi connection for my iPhone and iPad. Fortunately, Wi-Fi is becoming increasingly more available. But still, there are many times when Wi-Fi can’t be found. Many hotels, for example, provide a cabled LAN connection in rooms but not Wi-Fi. This doesn’t help much for my iPhone or iPad since they have no LAN capability. I need Wi-Fi!
The solution is a Wi-FI Travel Router. There are several available. I picked up the Wireless N Travel Router Kit by TRENDnet. In a very small package (1.6oz), it provides 300Mbps wireless coverage (IEEE 802.11n,802.11g, and 802.11b compliant). All you have to do is plug it into the LAN connection in your hotel room or other work space and you’re in business. The Wireless Travel Router provides up to 160 foot of coverage. With it you can share a single internet connection with multiple users via Wi-Fi. It comes with a nice travel case and includes a slim Ethernet cable, an alternate USB cable to power the router from a laptop, and an electrical adapter. ( Since its power requirements are the same as the iPhone, I use my small iPhone power adapter and save the hassle of carrying an extra adapter. The Tekkeon Battery power pack which I previously reviewed (click here) can also be used for power.)
I’ve found this to be a very helpful and handy device to have in my travel bag. If you like to stay connected – check it out (click here).
As Always …….. Enjoy The Adventure!
