Cheers To American Airlines! / bwb-images

Maybe my recent article (check it out here ) regarding the quality of airline service prompted a recent service upgrade at American Airlines.  Maybe?  But I doubt it. None the less – it is a step in the right direction and American deserves credit. In the past several years airlines have focused almost exclusively on taking things away from passengers or on ways to charge new fees for what once were standard services – think fees for checked bags as a prime example.  So thank you American Airlines. They have just announced that on “select” international flights they will be serving complimentary beer and wine in their “main cabins” (American Airlines speak for “Coach”) (See related notice)

The new service begins February 1.  Coach passengers on international flights between the U.S. and Europe, Asia and select South American countries can “enjoy beer and wine – compliments of the airline…”  Not exactly sure why passengers to some other South American countries can’t imbibe for free – or why this is just on international travel for that matter.  Guess it is just another mystery in the world of air travel.

Speaking about the new free beverage service, American’s Vice President of Marketing  is quoted as saying “Our customers asked for complimentary beer and wine, and we listened.  Starting Feb 1, when a customer travels internationally aboard American, we invite them to have a drink on us.”

So that got me to thinking – What if American customers all got together and asked for free checked bags (like the good old days)?  Do you suppose they would listen?
