On The Road Again – Heading to Key West!
It’s that time again – time to hit the road. You see, I was getting that feeling again, that craving, that need for travel. So I started to study my map, the one where I mark down all the routes I have taken over the years in my trusty road vehicle – My Road Trek. I’ve previously written about how well this Trek works for travel and photography (link). As I looked at the map I was struck by the fact that there was an extreme imbalance. The western portion of the map is absolutely criss crossed with lines representing travels and adventures. The eastern portion of the map? Well, not so much. Seems I have been just about everywhere west of my home base in Kansas City but I have essentially neglected (avoided?) everything to the east.
Well, I think it’s time to adjust that imbalance, at least a bit. After due consideration I have decided to head off and explore the Great Southeast. True, I’ve been there before. But that was as a child (more than a few years ago) and I have never explored the area with my Road Trek and my cameras. So the plan is set. I have a couple of weeks to get organized and prepare, and then I’m off. And as long as I’m heading in that south easterly direction I thought I would go as far as possible. So my ultimate destination is Key West Florida. (Apparently it is impossible to drive to Cuba – oh well.)
At this point the plan is a bit rough. Head east from Kansas City, hit the Atlantic Coast somewhere in S.Carolina or Georgia, and then ramble southward along the coast. No particular time table, no absolutes. Just follow the road and see what turns up. That’s part of the true adventure of a road trip.
It’s roughly a 1,700 mile drive from Kansas City to Key West. And there’s lots to see and do along the way. For some info on Key West check out this link. I plan to write and post here and to Facebook along the way.
On The Road Again ………. Enjoy The Adventure!
