I needed a trailer hitch bike rack for my upcoming road trip in my Road Trek. I reviewed my selection of the Sportwing 2 previously (see link).
Here’s how it looks after set up. I did make a few minor modifications. The bike literally “hangs” by it’s wheels from two hooks. Included straps secure the wheels in place but with the hanging system there is still some “play” or “swing” movement while the vehicle is in motion. I wasn’t really comfortable with this so I secured the lower portion of each wheel to the support brace using bungee cords. This worked well but created the potential for some rubbing of bike parts on the unprotected lower portion of the support brace ( upper portions of the braces come with rubberized protective cushioning.) To solve this I wrapped the lower portion of each brace with cushioning created out of swimming pool “noodles” (see the blue padding in the photo above).
The bike rack performed flawlessly on my road trip through the southeast. Overall I was very satisfied with this rack. It’s simple, cost effective, and gets the job done.
