In South Carolina football is a passion.  (Visit The University of South Carolina website at www.sc.edu)  To say that South Carolina fans take their football seriously would be a major understatement. On a recent road trip I had the opportunity to visit Columbia, South Carolina – home of the South Carolina Gamecocks.  I thought I would share a few photos just to give you a sense of the football ambiance.

The South Carolina mascot is the Gamecock, a fighting bird image you will encounter nearly everywhere in Columbia.

The Gamecocks play their football in Williams Brice Stadium which is really a fine football venue.

Outside the stadium you will find a line of “Cockabooses” (or is  “Cockabi” the plural form of Cockaboose?)

What is a Cockaboose you might wonder.  Why, it is a totally refurbished railroad caboose decked out in South Carolina colors and regalia of course.  They line one side of the stadium parking lot and for the lucky few serve as prime locations for pre-game and post-game party activities.

So if you happen to be in Columbia, South Carolina on a fine fall football afternoon – well you might try to hit up a friend for a ticket.  The football is great and the venue is outstanding.  Have a few of the local specialty – the boiled peanuts ( see my related article on this subject here ) And if you are really connected you might get to enjoy a bit of pre-game fun in a Cockaboose!

Go Gamecocks! ……………… Enjoy The Adventure!
