It’s not always possible to travel all over the world.  But local travel is always an option.  This morning I took a nice leisurely 15 mile ride through my area.  I live in the Greater Kansas City region and my ride today went through the suburban cities of Overland Park and Leawood which are on the Kansas side of the state line which runs though the area, dividing Kansas and Missouri.

It was a beautiful morning for a ride.  Come along with me.  Here are some of the things I saw on my local bike tour.

I started out cruising along one of the many, many miles of paved bike paths that criss-cross the area.  Nice and shady and cool.

After riding about 7 miles I decided to head over to more developed areas. Overland Park has lots of great restaurants and my route today took me past several of my favorites. This was a morning ride and the restaurants weren’t open yet.  That’s probably just as well.  Had they been open it would have been difficult to ride on past these great places without stopping for a taste or two.

How about some Spanish Tapas on the Patio?  That’s LaBodega.

Kansas City is famous for it’s barbecue (which has many spellings by the way.)  Joe’s of Kansas City has, IMHO, the “absatively most bestest ” barbecued ribs ever invented.  I mean – OUTSTANDING!

My ride took me through Park Place, a delightful multi-purpose development in Leawood, Kansas.  It is packed with numerous great restaurants, boutique shops, a wonderful Gelato shop, open spaces and a boutique hotel.

Given my love of barbecue, you likely have already deduced that I am neither vegan nor vegetarian.  I gotta have my meat!  And with that in mind I offer The Pig & Finch. It’s located in Park Place and has the best hamburger I’ve yet to discover in KC ( we have no In & Out Burger in our area you know).  And to top it off, they have one of the best patios for enjoying that great burger.

The homeward leg of my ride took me through The Sprint World Headquarters Campus, a  collection of 17 buildings encompassing 3,900,000-square-foot spread across 200 acres in Overland Park, Kansas.  Sprint is the largest employer in the Overland Park area.

Kansas City and the surrounding areas have lots to offer.  I enjoy riding through the various communities and photographing the sights.  Hope you enjoyed this ride.  Come along next time.
