ROAD TRIP – IN STYLE!

Ever had the desire to take a Road Trip – the dream of heading off down the road to explore what’s around the bend and over the next hill?  It doesn’t have to be a dream.  Thousands of Americans and others around the world live out that dream each year.

Many adventurous travelers take that Road Trip in a recreational vehicle or RV.   Sometimes referred to as a “Caravan” in other parts of the world, an RV combines a driveable road vehicle with sleeping and eating accommodations.  Some are small and compact such as my much loved and very well traveled 1997 19 ft Road Trek pictured above.  Others are quite honestly gigantic, being larger than a Super Bus.  The bigger they are, the more creature comforts they carry – and of course the price goes up accordingly as well. Other travelers opt for tow-behind travel trailers, which again come in all shapes, sizes and prices.

As spring approaches travelers begin to think of hitting the road.  It’s the perfect time for The Overland Park RV And Outdoor Show in my hometown of Overland Park, Kansas.  The show gathers together travel vehicles of all sorts.  Seemed like a good time to check out what’s available for Road Trippers in 2017.

Some Recreational Vehicles are huge – dual rear wheel systems, several slide out side sections – like taking your home on the road.

Big RVs have lots of interior room with gorgeous cabinetry, leather seating areas, and indirect lighting.  Truly a lovely home on wheels.  These big babies come with hefty price tags.  Those on display in Overland Park ranged from almost $200,000 to $750,000.   And if you want – you can order some others which are priced in the millions.

At the other end of the Road Trip Vehicle spectrum is the retro-design, “Tear Drop” tow-behind trailers.  With no head room, the interior is filled with a large mattress for sleeping and lounging.  Of course there is a very nice entertainment center with flat screen tv and sound system as well as storage cabinets and air conditioning.

The external rear panel of the Tear Drop lifts up to reveal sink, stove top, counter and storage space.  Small and efficient for the minimalist Road Tripper. The price for something in this range?   Looked like most were around $14,500 or so.

I love my 1997 Road Trek so I had to check out the new models. Seems the Road Trek line of RVs has grown up a bit.  A very different chasis and body design allows for much more head room – something I would truly value!.  Modern paint schemes give the Road Trek a much more sleek appearance.

Road Trek interiors have had major upgrades as well with leather seating and indirect lighting.

The interior refinements make the new Road Trek a luxurious Road Trip experience.  But with all these upgrades the price has rocketed up as well.   This one was listed at $155,985 but was on “special” during the show for $138,059.

Interested in taking that Great Road Trip?   With the right travel equipment it can be an adventurous and / or a luxurious experience.  Check out your favorite travel gear and hit the road.  Me?  I wouldn’t mind a nice upgrade, but at these prices I’m even more in love with my 1997 Road Trek!

See You On The Road …………….Enjoy The Adventure!
