KU SPORTS UPDATE
And The Beat Goes On! The University of Kansas Jayhawks have successfully moved through the initial two rounds of the NCAA Basketball Tournament. On Friday, March 17th they defeated UC Davis 100-62. Then on Sunday March 20 they defeated my “other alma mater”, Michigan State University 90-70.
Now the tournament moves into the Regionals which are held in 4 cities around the U.S.. Starting with 64 teams, the remaining group has been reduced to 16. So this is the week of the Sweet 16. The MidWest Regional is in Kansas City this year and the University of Kansas returns to play in KC at the Sprint Center. Their next game is scheduled to tip off on Thursday, March 23rd at 8:39 PM Central Standard Time when KU plays Purdue out of the Big 10. Should be a great game. The winner of that match up moves on to play in the Elite 8 on Sunday, March 25th (also in Kansas City.)
So far KU’s march to the National Championship is on track. Of course at this point all remaining teams are good. So the winner will need not only to be at the top of their game but they will also need a bit of luck on their side. The Championship Game is in Phoenix, Arizona on April 3rd. Will KU be there? I hope so. Will I be there? No – I’ll be in Cuba. But then that might also be lucky for KU as I wrote in an earlier article on KU’s NCAA Appearance.
