Journey To Chiang Mai Thailand

Time To Kick The Tires & Light The Fires!

It’s that time again – time to hit the road.

Or, as my favorite pilot saying goes –

“It’s time to kick the tires and light the fires!”

Cold weather is arriving in Kansas City, and as luck would have it, just coincidentally you understand,  I have an airline ticket to the much warmer climate of Thailand.  Go figure.

Southeast Asia is a feast for photographers and writers and that’s especially true of Thailand.  I’m doing this journey a bit differently this year.  Rather than moving nomadically from place to place I’m going to set down roots.  Temporary roots of course, but roots none-the-less.  I’ll be based in Chiang Mai for an extended stay.  From there I may take various short day trips or outings to other areas of interest.  Time will tell.

A Brief  “ON THE ROAD AGAIN”  Video

Getting to Chiang Mai is my least favorite part of the journey.  There was a time when air travel was pleasant.  Today? Not so much.  I’m a bit over 6′ 2″ tall.  Today’s airline seats are a joke – a bad joke.  As soon as I board a plane I begin to ask in 5 year old fashion, “are we there yet?” And Chiang Mai – well, it’s not exactly close to Kansas City as the video above shows.  There is a 13 hour time difference between Kansas City and Chiang Mai.  7PM in Kansas city is 8AM the next morning in Thailand.

I have several articles already written, “in the pipeline” and scheduled for publication into December. While in Thailand I hope to continue to write articles as time allows.   But the frequency of my postings may vary. Most Chiang Mai  and Thailand related articles will undoubted hit the press after my return. While in Thailand  I will  be posting photos and updates on my Facebook page so feel free to drop by and visit.

And by the way – this article “goes to press” 2 days before Thanksgiving in the U.S.  – so I definitely want  to wish everyone a Wonderful Thanksgiving!

WHO STOLE MY THANKSGIVING?

On a personal note, my own Thanksgiving Day appears to somehow get “lost” as I fly from Los Angeles to Hong Kong.  Departing LA at 10:30 PM ( local) on Wednesday, November 22nd, I arrive in Hong Kong at 6:10 AM (local) on Friday, November 24th.  So, who stole Thursday – my Thanksgiving?  Guess it has  something to do with the international date line or such?  I was never much good at time travel! Anyway – See Y’all In Chiang Mai!
