DINING ON “BACK PACKER’S ALLEY,” CHIANG MAI
CORNER BISTRO
Those in my Chiang Mai neighborhood (temporary) frequently call it “Back Packer Alley.” But to be honest, the name is actualy Ratchaphuek Alley. Still, Back Packer Alley is much easier to pronounce and is, at the same time rather reflective of the area which is full of hostels, hotels, scooters, and a large collection of international back packers.

Back Packer Alley, located one block north of Huaykaew Road, is also home to a nice variety of local restaurants. And since it is located a mere 500 meter walk from my apartment, it’s in easy range when a case of the munchies strikes. I’ve developed a taste (sorry ’bout that) for several of the small dining venues on the “Alley.” The Corner Bistro is one of my favorites. Located on the corner (of course) of Ratchaphuek Alley and Saijai Road ( 8/8 Ratchaphuek Alley, Chiang Mai 50300, Thailand. phone:096 497 6766 ) they open at 4:00 PM. Later in the evening you may find a DJ playing tunes or find yourself in a game of Trivia. Other nights folks gather at the Bistro to watch the movie of the night – shown on a large screen TV. It’s a nice neighborhood setting for movie and a brew. They even provide complimentary popcorn!

The Bistro has a mixture of indoor and outdoor deck seating – but most of the time the glass “wall / doors” are open and the entire establishment is open air.

The Bistro has a wide variety of items on the menu ( Bistro Menu ) but I have visited primarily for their great burgers and sandwiches – all of which are served with a side of absolutely great french fries!

The Corner Bistro is a friendly place with good food and a comfortable, casual atmosphere. It’s definitely worth a visit the next time you are in the neighborhood!
