The City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia, Spain is described as an entertainment-based cultural leisure complex.  Buildings in the project house various features including a planetarium, an  iMax Theater, an interactive museum of science, a landscaped walkway with plants native to Spain, an oceanographic park and an opera house and performing arts center. The area covers a total of around 2 square kilometers and is famous for t’s dynamic architectural structures by Valencian architect Santiago Calatrava and Felix Candela of Madrid.

Aside from the various activities, events and attractions that the traveler can enjoy at the City of Arts and Sciences, it is also a photographer’s delight.

 

City of Arts and Sciences by Day –

 

El Museu de les Ciencies Principe Felipe – Completed in 2000, houses the interactive museum of science.  It is designed to resemble the skeleton of a whale.

L’Hemisfèric – In the foreground,was the first structure completed in 1998 and houses the planetarium.

L’Umbracle – Completed in 2001, this open structure covers a walkway highlighting a variety of plants native to Spain.

The City of Arts and Sciences is one of the “must see” destinations in Valencia.  Attend an event or concert or simply stroll the grounds and marvel at the architecture.  It’s quite a place and a great venue for photography.
